Tian Tian Liang Wan Tan Mee @ Sungai Petani

The Wan Tan Mee, sold by Ah Ngau in Tian Tian Liang Coffee shop, is definitely the most famous Wan Tan Mee in Sungai Petani already.

The crowd here every morning is just amazing, usually if you are unlucky you will need to wait for 30 minutes to 1 hour for a plate of mee. To many people in Sungai Petani, it just not worth to wait so long for it. However, 1 thing I like about this shop is they do give a number when you order.

This will make sure that they won’t make any mistake by serving customer who came later than the earlier one. Besides, by having number on each table, a customer can slightly anticipate how long it will take for their order to reach.

Yummy yummy.

I really love the Wan Tan Mee here. The mee is very bouncy, and the Wan Tan here is very nice and soft too. Most of the time I will add Wan Tan when I am here. Besides, the vegetables here is always nicely cook and fresh. Just love it! 8.2/10

A really Must Try! place to have break fast in Sungai Petani, certainly 1 of the best Wan Tan Mee.

  1. For the first 9 years after I came to the States, I did not have to chance to go home. But before I left home, I have never even heard of “Ah Ngau Wanton Mee” (but my mom told me he was kind of already selling it at some small kampong corner of SP before Tian Tian Liang). And for the first time I went home after 9 years later, Ah Ngau had suddenly become the Wanton Mee poster child of SP… I still remember his Wanton Mee was my very first meal at SP after being away for all those years and I had eaten there several times after that.

In fact my parents’ home is at the Taman behind Tian Tian Liang and I had been eating there whenever I visit home mainly for its near proximity rather than its popularity… However I had never understood the big fuss about his version of Wanton Mee. Malaysian Wanton Mee had always been my favorite comfort food growing up. Had eaten many different versions from North to South and had always preferred the dark sauce version. To me Ah Ngau Wanton Mee is good, but not great enough for the sometimes 45 minutes – 1 hour’s long wait or his unpredictable temperamental outburst from times to times. I usually dealt with his wife or helpers instead him directly whenever I ordered from there. If the wait is too long, I will just walk away and come back some other times… well, that’s just my opinion. 🙂
