Kampachi Japanese Restaurant at Equatorial Hotel, Penang is definitely 1 of the top top Japanese restaurant in Penang. However, it had been years since I last visit them. Reason is although it’s worth paying, but the price here is still consider higher if compare to those budget Japanese restaurant (No I ain’t talking about Sissy King and Sakai Sushi) that mushroom everywhere in town.
Besides the normal À la carte menu, Kamapchi do offer buffet lunch and dinner during weekends @ RM62++ for lunch, and RM86++ for dinner, which is something very famous among Penangties, leading it to be always full house during weekends.
The main buffet hall and dining hall. I sorta like the design here, very cozy and even when it’s pack with people, you won’t find that it’s too crowded. Yes, you can see most of the table are still empty, but it’s just because those that reserved are still taking their time to come, while me as the hungry ghost is starting to hunt for food already!
The sushi room, separated from the main hall. It’s quite small, but fit in just nice.
Ah…..sushi sushi sushi! HOWEVER, sushi is too full for buffet! I always tend to skip most of them, and head on to the next….which is…….
YESH! Sashimi! Yummmmyy……and they are all very fresh!
Some different way of eating Sashimi, looks nice but to me so so only la.
Fresh oyster, yea…..but too bad, the size is too small.
Goodie Teriyaki Chicken….the sauce is just greato!
The soup station with a friendly chef. You can choose between beef and chicken, and also can opt for adding saba or udon with the soup. Besides, the favorite of Doraemon is here – Dorayaki. The Dorayaki with red bean paste is really good!
I tried the chicken version, not bad eh. Besides, the chef will only add in the chicken into to wok and cook it when you order. This prevents one from getting rock hard chicken.
The grill bar.
The beef is quite good, but I hate it as it stuck into my teeth and I had a very very hard time to take it of…grrrrrr.
Lobster oh lobster, it’s small and not juicy, but salty! Too bad.
Grilled prawns which is very nice! Why ain’t the lobster as good as this eh.
Desert bar, yes, choices might be lacking, but most of them is good! Especially the Tiramisu! Besides, they do change some of the item when it’s finish, so it ain’t same stuff all night.
Since I never thought of making a reservation earlier, the main dining hall is full booked. We have to opt to sit at the sake bar, which is quite empty and only 4 tables for the whole night. However, the bad thing is we need to walk quite far for our food.
Seafood oh seafoodzzzz…..
Overall, Kampachi Japanese Restaurant weekend buffet dinner is good. The choice of food may be limited especially compare to Sarkies Corner in E&O hotel, but the quality of food here is really good. Well worth the money I can say especially if you are a big eater!
