The yam rice in Penang is quite different from others part of Malaysia as it’s almost always served with salted vegetables pork soup, hence the soup taste sourish and very appetizing! The ingredients used is mostly pork, from the innards such as blood, liver, intestine to something more normal such as pork balls, lean meat and 3 layer meat.Of course, you can always customize the ingredients by telling them what you want, and what you don’t want. 7.0/10

Unlike some other shop where each bowl of yam rice will have a huge chunk of yam in it, at here you can only find small pieces of yam in it. Although some might also wonder, why is the rice brownish in color? No, it’s not because of the yam, it’s because of the dark soy sauce used. The yam rice is however, very fragrant and I can already smell it while waiting for my portion to come.

I also order a bowl of stew pig trotter with some innards, which turn out to be quite average only. The meat is too lean and not tender enough. 6.0/10

The yam rice featured here is from Sentosa Corner coffee shop in Taman Sentosa, Bukit Mertajam. It was regarded as one of the most famous and best yam rice in Penang. However, it seems to me that their quality had degraded. In the past, the soup used to give me a strong kick when I drank it, but now, it seems the ommph is lacking already.2010.04.28 Sri Sentosa Yam Rice @ Bukit Mertajam-5
