Hammer Bay Ikan Bakar @ Penang

Where is the best place for dinner? Yes, beach is the way man! Watching the sun set, enjoying fresh seafood while the natural wind blowing you is just…..awesome! Although the sea water is not crystal clear in Penang, neither the sand is silky smooth in the East coast of Penang island, but still, you can overlook the whole Penang bridge and looking at ships entering and exiting the port is quite a view too.

Hence this explains why restaurants are mushrooming along the East coast of the island, all the way from the start of Jelutong Highway at the end of Pengkalan Weld to Queensbay mall.

However, most of these stalls are just normal road side restaurant, not those classy type that you find in Batu Ferringhi area.

Little White Dragon Ikan Bakar and Wat Dan Hor @ Sungai Petani

Little White Dragon eh or 小白龙 in chinese, is a small coffee shop at Pekan Lama in Sungai Petani, but it do boast 2 famous food here, the awesomeness Ikan Bakar and the Wat Dan Hor.

The godly tasty Ikan Bakar. Although if compare just the fish itself, the one in Wong Ah Wah is better, but this one wins out overall, mainly due to the sauce used to grilled the fish is just plain great. Really awesome stuff! 9.1/10

The grilled clams, nice stuff too. There are few types of clams available to choose from, from the really small one to medium size, but all subject to availability. 8.1/10

Wong Ah Wah @ Jalan Alor Kuala Lumpur

The whole street of Jalan Alor is full with restaurant, and the best part is each restaurant are selling almost the same thing, all are “dai chao” and seems to sell Ikan Bakar, and almost every shop are full with customer. So how to know which are the best? I googled and turn up to all the floggers I can find, and decide that I will dine at Wong Ah Wah, as many had commented that the grilled chicken wing here is something to die for!

Since I don’t know where is Wong Ah Wah, I turn in to Jalan Alor from Imperial Hotel (Changkat Bukit Bintang), slowly trying to look for my target restaurant. It’s really not an easy task, as each restaurant you walked pass, you will surely be pulled by the waiter to ask you dine at their place. I had to politely say NO to all of them, while I slowly look for the sign board and search for Wong Ah Wah, but it’s nowhere to be seen after I pass by 10++ restaurant!

While I almost wanted to give up when I almost reach the end of Jalan Alor, I saw Wong Ah Wah Restaurant, it’s at the other end of Jalan Alor, where Nova Hotel is located at.

Before enter the restaurant, I already can see that loads of chicken wing are being grilled, and they certainly look delicious!

Dataran Ikan Bakar @ Sungai Petani

Dataran Ikan Bakar, located by Sungai Petani (yes, Sungai Petani is the name of a river), serve some nice Malay ikan bakar. Well, usually if a restaurant is located by the river or sea, definitely the view and environment will be nice right? No, this is not the case here, as anyone who saw Sungai Petani before will understand it.

The place they “bakar” the fish is quite small, but they usually cook it earlier, which lead to most of the time the food is already cold when served.
