Day 1 @ Danok, Thailand (2011)

I had visit Danok quite a few times, but it’s really really a boring place, unless you are here for you know what.

I usually came here for few hours only and I am back.

However, for the first ever time, I decided to overnight here.

Lau Yew Crab Meat Hor Fun @ Bukit Mertajam

A person can be given the best ingredient, the best cooking tools, the world most craved for recipe, but if he ain’t got the passion to cook, or just don’t have enough skill, the outcome of the dish just won’t taste nice.

Some dishes are just so wonderful when you look at it, or theoretically will be awesome when you heard of it, but the outcome might not be the same.

Crab meat hor fun, how wonderful? By the looks at it, the amount of crab meat given and char siew are generous. Besides, it looks colorful too, if only there are more greens on it. Something like this should be awesome!

Street Food @ Bukit Kayu Hitam (Ban Dan Nok)

One of the advantages staying in my hometown – Sungai Petani is that it’s very close to the border of Thailand and Malaysia. Folks here can just spend a little and are able to travel out of Malaysia already. How great is that huh?

And yea, Bukit Kayu Hitam is the place always being mentioned by folks here. People always say, let’s go to Bukit Kayu Hitam for some little shopping, and have some really authentic Thai food. However, little to be known by folks here, Bukit Kayu Hitam is still under Malaysia, as it is Kedah’s main border town on the Malaysia-Thailand Border. You don’t need to pass the border, or use your passport to visit Bukit Kayu Hitam.

However, since Bukit Kayu Hitam is not their main destination, passport is needed to enter the town of Ban Dan Nok in the district of Sadao, Songkhla province in Southern Thailand.

Like in almost every border, the immigration area is always packed and full with people queuing up. We queue up for more than 30 minutes, and since it’s open air border, there ain’t any air-conditional to cool us down. So once we pass the border, the 1st thing that came to my mind is to have some coconut jelly!

Ice cooled coconut jelly @ RM2.50 is really superbly refreshing for us.

Restaurant Toipark Village @ Penang

Yay for another Taiwanese food here in Penang. I actually get to know this restaurant from PenangTuaPui, and again, the food they recommend doesn’t disappoints me!

We reach there around 8.00pm, and am quite surprise that there ain’t any customer inside. The design of the shop is very simple and pinkish. Besides, it’s run by Taiwanese as the lady boss ascent show it all. So hopefully I will get to taste some authentic Taiwanese food here.

Line Clear Nasi Kandar @ Penang

Nasi Kandar, one of the most famous food in Malaysia. However, it seems that not many people know that Nasi Kandar originates from Penang, and Penang served some of the best, if not the best Nasi Kandar in Malaysia. This is the fact that many of my friends that came from other places of Malaysia, when they come to Penang, and wanted to bring them eat Nasi Kandar, they will give me this shocking or confuse look of “What? come to Penang ask me eat Nasi Kandar???? I want Char koay teow, Curry Mee, Prawn Mee, Laksa!”

Anyway, if talk about famous Nasi Kandar stall in Penang, Nasi Kandar Line Clear definitely come into most Penangtie mind. No! It’s not Nasmir or Kayu. I wouldn’t say those are very bad, but if compare of purity and awesomeness, they are no way close to Line Clear.

Man, just look at the queue! The queue almost reach the main road already.

And yes, Nasi Kandar Line Clear is located at an alley (or lorong kia), so if hygiene of an eating place is a huge problem for you, then this is not your place. To me, as long as the food served is nice, I won’t care for the environment, heck I won’t purposely go and see how dirty it is, or else I just won’t be able to enjoy my food already.

However, the choice of dish available here may be lesser than some other Nasi Kandar, but when it came to food, it’s all about quality, not quantity.
