Aeroline @ Penang > Kuala Lumpur

As lazy as I can be, I really hate driving, especially long journey driving. However, public transport from my hometown to Kuala Lumpur is really limited. Let’s see what choices do I have ya…..

1) Air Asia – Around RM100++ per person, the most expansive way to travel. However, it not entirely that fast too from Penang to KL. Considering I need to arrive at Penang airport 1 hour earlier, then wait for the luggage at LCCT, hire a cab or take their bus to KL sentral, which will take another 1 hour again. So in total, it will takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach Kuala Lumpur from Penang.

2) KTM – RM42++ per person, considered as 1 of the safest way to travel. However, it took the longest time to reach, and is actually the worst possible way to travel in terms of comfort. The train depart at around 8.00PM from Sungai Petani, reaching KL Sentral at 5am++ in the morning. Not only it took 9 hours ++ to reach (due to loads and loads of stops), the ride is bumpy too. Besides, no hotel will let me check in so early without any extra charge anyway.

3) Express Bus – RM30++ per person, considered by me as 1 of the most dangerous way to travel. The journey took around 5 hours for day time, but I try to avoid them as much as possible especially I had sat a few badly maintain express bus, and I had also saw many crazy bus drivers on the road.

4) Aeroline – Well, it’s also a bus, a double decker one, just that it’s a premium one. It cost RM60 per peson. I had a pleasant journey with Aeroline before from KL to Penang. Their bus is much better maintain than others, and I find that their bus is much more stable than others.

5) Drive down – Possible the best way to travel. It cost around RM120 for 1 way though (Petrol + Tol). Time is flexible and I will have my own transport at my destination.

After considering all my options, I chose Aeroline this time. Instead of boarding at bus stations, their departure hub is at Queensbay Mall, Penang.

A small waiting room before your departure. Too bad, I don’t know is it because they are trying to save some electricity bill, or their air-conditioner is broken. Oh, tea and coffee are FOC too.

Kaffa Kafe @ Straits Quay Penang

Straits Quay is a project by the Eastern & Oriental Berhad, it’s also Penang first and only retail marina up to date. Many had also told me, how beautiful it is, and how wonderful and different from other malls.

HOWEVER, NONE tell me that Straits Quay is a ghost shopping complex in the noon time, even in the weekend! The mall is still empty with retail stores, however, it’s totally a different case with restaurants.

I absolutely no idea which to dine in, since most of them are new to me. In the end, Kaffa Kafe is my choice. Reasons? iPad available!!!!

There are 6 iPad in the restaurant, available for customers who dine here. They also have their menu inside the iPad. However, games are limited since almost all of the games are demo version, but with free wifi available, hell yea!

For an appetizer, ours is quite a heavy one, Grilled Beef Bites @ RM13.90. Well, the beef itself is juicy and not hard, BUT no matter how hard I try, I just unable to bite it into smaller pieces lol. Hence….. 1.5/10

Jalan Sg. Pinang Honda Showroom Hawker @ Penang

Jalan Sungai Pinang is a street full with car’s showroom. Here, you can find Cheverlot, Volvo, Honda, Mazda, Proton and a few more.

I rarely pass by this street in the morning, unless I am bringing my car for service, and every time I pass by this street, I will be curious, what is so famous here that it’s so crowded?

Choices are not exactly that much, well since it’s just a few hawker store, I opt for the Herbal Duck Mee Shua @ RM5, and mang, it’s amazing.

I usually won’t order herbal duck noodle as my choice of food, as to me, most of the soup is basically tasteless, and only the duck itself is nice. But, this, the soup is absolutely rich in flavor, and the mee shua texture is superb too! I basically bottoms up the whole bowl of soup! 8.4/10

Soul Kitchen @ Penang

Already falling in love with Soul Kitchen after I had my breakfast there, here am I again. This time, for lunch.

For starter, we have Tomato Soup @ RM8 served with organic bread. The soup is quite good but I do hope it’s cooked much more thicker. 6.4/10

Our freshly baked Pizza Parma Ham @ RM20, which is the thin crust style pizza which I like. However, it’s not really rich in flavour and I would very much appreciate if more cheese were used 😀

Besides, as I am not a huge fan of the salty Parma Ham and the bitter rocket, I don’t enjoy it much. 6.0/10

Soul Kitchen @ Penang

Located at Lebuh Muntri @ Penang, Soul Kitchen is a very unique and special place to dine here in Penang. Why so?

Well, first of all, it’s a small family business, operate by the couple Michele and Tonio. The building is already quite a history itself  and is part of the heritage pre-war building.

Besides, rather than serving the traditional local Chinese/Malay/Indian hawker food you can find all around in Penang, it served Italian food instead.

My beautiful Cappuccino @ RM5.

And LY’s freshly squeeze and flavourful Orange Juice @ RM5. Price might a bit steep you might say as we are not dining in a air-conditioned restaurant, but the orange juice is pure and good, unlike those you get in normal coffee shop where you taste water and sugar syrup more rather than orange.

Lau Yew Crab Meat Hor Fun @ Bukit Mertajam

A person can be given the best ingredient, the best cooking tools, the world most craved for recipe, but if he ain’t got the passion to cook, or just don’t have enough skill, the outcome of the dish just won’t taste nice.

Some dishes are just so wonderful when you look at it, or theoretically will be awesome when you heard of it, but the outcome might not be the same.

Crab meat hor fun, how wonderful? By the looks at it, the amount of crab meat given and char siew are generous. Besides, it looks colorful too, if only there are more greens on it. Something like this should be awesome!
