Hong Yu Xuan Xiang La Xie @ Zhuhai, China

As a Chinese, I absolutely love Chinese food. I would love to try all the Chinese food around in China as each places in China, they will have different type of speciality that’s might be totally different from the other.

However, almost 99% of my friend who went to China, they all came back and whine about how sucks the food there is. However, that’s also because 99% of them who went to China, they all follow tour, and as far as I know, if you follow a tour for any trip, the food is usually 99% sucks to the max.

Most Malaysians also complaint that food in China is wayyyy too oily, but you might have to take note that in China, they uses chopsticks and rarely use spoon. They don’t pour the gravy on their rice like what we always do.

And hence, I always have faith for food in China. Luckily, even since the first time I visited Zhuhai, I am in loved with the food here. This particular restaurant – Hong Yu Xuan, which served authentic Szechuan (川菜)is my absolute favourite restaurant when I am in Zhuhai.

Century egg, also being listed as 1 of the most disgusting food by CNN is 1 of the must order appetizer here. I am not a huge fan of century egg back at Malaysia, mainly because we either eat it plain like that, or fried it when eating lor bak.

However, the century egg here are dip with the chilli oil and chillies on top just make this an amazinnnng appetizer. Absolutely perfect! 8.8/10

Their steamed grill fish is also 1 of the signature dish here. The fish itself is briefly grilled before it was steamed. It’s a bit spicy and taste a little sweet, but overall, very nice. However, since most of the fish here are grass carb, a freshwater fish with loads of bones, it’s a minor setback.  7.0/10

The next morning, we wanders around for breakfast. There are few stalls beside the road full with people, and hence we decide to have our breakfast there.

The pork leg rice @ RM4 looks really pale and uninteresting when it served, but it’s good. The meat is super tender, the gravy is nice and it just taste amazing! Eat it with their chili, it is just greatttt!! However, the vegetables taste bitter though. 7.5/10

Steamed Sang Yu @ Billion Sungai Petani

There’s always a hidden gem everywhere, and this small little stall, located just outside 1 of the abandoned shopping mall (Billion) in Sungai Petani, is a true gem.

Ok la, it’s not really abandoned, just that instead that it’s a shopping mall with many retail shops in it, there’s only “The Store” departmental store inside. Most of the time it’s quite empty, since peeps in Sungai Petani will go to Tesco (we got 2 tesco here okay?!) or Giant for grocery, and Central Square if they want more. However, during festive seasons, those that hate crowd will come here since most places will be way way too overcrowded.

Well, guess it’s enough talk of shopping mall. This small stall is those that you won’t bother to give it a second look even if you walk past it. It’s only operate during dinner time, and are run by Chinese from China.

They do served rice, but you should try their porridge when you are here. Although it’s just plain porridge, but the porridge itself is very damned smooth. Just superb if you eat it along with the main dish! 8.0/10

Lan Je Steamed Tilapia Restaurant @ Kota Damansara

Up till now, after 1 year and 7 months of blogging, I rarely posted the same food in the same restaurant, up till now.

Again, here I present, the single food that I loved the most in the central region, the most mouth watering, and consider my top of the list food to be eated every time I go down to Kuala Lumpur, Lan Je Steamed Tilapia!!!!

Sek Yuen Restaurant @ Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

I finally had a chance to dine in Sek Yuen restaurant, which I had heard so much good comments on them in the past. I actually thought it was nearby to Puduraya at first, turn out it’s nearby to Pudu Plaza instead. I am also quite amazed that I saw 2 Sek Yuen side by side, 1 with air corn and another 1 without, and since it’s such a hot day, of course I choose the one which is cooler inside!

Since it’s only 2 of us, and I really wanted to try their “pei pa duck“, so I still opted for it although the waiter told us the portion is quite big since it’s half of the duck. Nevertheless I and LY finish it as it’s good! Yea, some part of the duck might be quite hard to bite off, but the skin is really crispy and I love it. Yummy! 8.4/10

Bi Ah Dong (Mabrown) Restaurant @ Sungai Petani

Bi Ah Dong? Mabrown? I always find that this restaurant name is very funny. In Chinese the restaurant was read as “We Ye Tong”, or “Bi Ah Dong” in Hokkien, but in English it was known as Mabrown, and which I always read as “Mabolo” when I was still small, err….what? Well, in any case, this restaurant had started their business for a long time already, as long as Restaurant Sai Gao, and if not mistaken, they are 1 of the 1st restaurant in Sungai Petani that provide air-corn room for their customers.

However, in terms of customers, Sai Gao always had the upper hand. I had also notice most of the time Sai Gao is the first choice of most customers, and only if they can’t find a place there then they will only opt for Restaurant Bi Ah Dong. Besides, whenever Sai Gao is off, the business here will be tremendously good.

However, I still love both restaurant, and I find that both of them got their specialties that make me always come back to them.

They had a few ready cooked dishes, such as those you found in economy rice stall, and the beancurd below is 1 of them. Although it’s cold already (duh obviously) but it still taste nice. Even though the skin is not crispy, but the gravy is good. I take it as an appetizer before my meal. 7.5/10

Restaurant Kolam Ikan @ Kulim

Restaurant Kolam Air, a not so hidden gem (as it was visited by Ah Xian before) was located in a small town in Kulim, Kedah. It was originally build to breed fresh water fish, and slowly evolve to a small restaurant which had attract huge amount of eaters everyday.

I absolutely love this place as it was far away from town, and gives 1 some very good feel, the kampung (village) feel.

The small atap house there is where the place where you going to dine in. The place is quite small with only 10 tables available, and even the land is not cement!
